Not worth itI ordered this product along with another crate fan from a different manufacturer at a cheaper cost to compare. This fan definitely does not provide enough cooling power. Also, with the description being brief, I was under the impression that the "cooling system" came with the order. I was surprised when I did not receive it as all the photos show it with the attachment. Not worth the money, cheaper fan from another manufacturer, without the thermostatic control is definitely better.not as advertisedI did not use the product. It was advertised with the cooling products included. It arrived as the fan only. I called Amazon. They could not send the remaining items so I returned the fan and they immediately refunded the cost.Good as a fan, not as a cooling systemI purchased this fan after my negative experience with the Metro Vacuum Cage/Crate Cooling Fan #CCF-1. I figured it can't much worse than the Metro. To my surprise, this is a very nice fan. If all you want to do is move air inside the crate, be it at home or while driving, it does a great job. The build quality is typical plastic fare. In other words, it doesn't feel overly durable but doesn't feel like it'll fall apart at the touch either. The ability to use the "auto on" feature is a pleasant addition, however I'm not sure of the usefulness. In theory it's nice. In practice, if it's in your car, it's always on regardless of the AC level. I think this has to do more with the lack of airflow in the rear of a car than a failing of the fan's thermostat though. Your mileage will vary. One thing I am certainly not pleased with is the batteries. Don't get me wrong, I like that it can be run with batteries. My problem is that it requires 4 "C" cell batteries. Considering I just "upgraded" from the Metro that used only 2 "D" cell batteries, this is going to take some getting used to. The ability to purchase the cooling rings is nice, but as other reviewers have stated, they don't last that long and really don't help much. In fact, I would hazard a guess and say you probably block some of the air flow when using the rings given how they attach to the fan (I haven't done any formal testing to verify). Which means they will cool when they are frozen/cold, but when they thaw out it will just likely serve to give your pet less moving air which defeats the purpose. So why did I give this a three star rating? First, the build quality as mentioned above. Second, the 4 battery options. Third, the price. $33 for this fan when the Metro can be had for ~$14? Seems to be a bit of over kill considering the Metro has dual speed controls, uses only 2 batteries and can be plugged in with an AC/DC adapter (sold separately). It's a good product that does what it says. The three stars, to me, means it's a good product but not excellent and doesn't stand far above the other products I've tried. If this one lasts more than 25 days like the Metro, it's definitely worth the price. Best crate cooling system on the market!I did a little research on crate fans before deciding on the Proselect Delux Thermostatic Crate Fan and Cooling system. This fan is definitely the most adaptable fan on the market because it runs on batteries, DC adapter or AC adapter. This fan also has a thermostat so you can have the fan turn on only when a certain temperature is reached which helps conserve energy when you are running off of batteries. The motor has 2 speeds and is very quite even when running on "high". The fan is very sturdy and sports a sleek design. Large hooks hold the fan securely to the crate door and opening and closing the door of the crate did not cause the fan to move or bang about. The hooks also allow the fan to be moved to any position quickly and easily without the hassle of unscrewing it. The optional Cooling System consists of a ring filled with nontoxic "blue ice" which froze solid in my small RV freezer in just a few hours. The ring then snaps securely into a holder on the outside of the fan and the fan then pulls the cooled air into the crate. I really liked the fact that the cool pack attaches to the outside of the door so I don't have to worry about my dogs chewing on the thing. The system has been criticized for not being able to keep the cooling rings frozen in a standard cooler but they will stay frozen in coolers using dry ice (use proper care when handling dry ice) or you can try packing a cooler with packages of blue ice (use lots!) and then storing your cooling rings in the center. That should keep them frozen for a while.Unfortunately uselessI bought two fans. Both did not last one season although I did not use them very often. When do we need the cool air for our dogs? When we park the car and cannot use airconditioner. That is the biggest problem about this system. The ice pack does not last more than 5 minutes in the car without AC. And that is the time you want to use the cooling system -- we do not need the whole system as long as the AC is on. There is no way you can keep the ice pack solid unless you travel with the portable freezer (not cooler). So by the time I got to the dog show site, the ice pack was just liquid, and I only used the fan.I have a car with a good working AC, so what is this cooling system for when it can last only 5 minutes?? I need the cooling system that works when I park my car at the dog show site and turn off the engine (and AC). Good idea but totally useless. Buy cheaper crate fan. |
